Rooms & Scenes

The Toy Shop

    Barbie Corner

This is the far corner of the doll and bear section.  The blocks are just regular children's blocks and I actually found the letters to spell out 'toys'.  The two large figures are reproduction Barbies in original outfits.

The shelf is actually from a playscale set, but I spray painted the backing black to give some contrast.  The first shelf contains small reproduction Barbie Bazaar Magazines and a miniature Mod Barbie book that I made.

The second and third shelf contain reproduction Barbie cases.  Click HERE for the instructions.  At the foot of the shelf, you'll find some vintage reproduction Barbie boxes, which I made from keychain boxes with the vintage box graphics.

    Barbie Corner

Here you can see some of the children that have come to shop...er beg their parents for a new toy.  The little girl in the front is even shorter than the gumball bank, which is actually a candy dispenser I found in the grocery store.

    Dollhouses & Bears

Here's the doll & bear corner.  The dollhouses came from a few sources.  The large pink and blue dollhouse was made by Little Tykes and is a reproduction of the child-size version.  I found this at Toy Liquidators in 1998 and I haven't seen it since.  The pink and purple dollhouse in the front I just purchased at a miniatures show in Atlanta. I am unsure of the origin.

The Buttercup box was a gift from my friend, Carolyn.  The small church was a gift from my friend, Allison.

The bears came from many sources.  The Gund bears were sent from my friend, Cheryl, the Valentine bear was purchased in 1997 at Target.  The large bear in the back came with the Little Tykes dollhouse.

The black and white bears, the grey bears and the light brown bears were purchased at Toy Liquidators in 1999, packaged in sets of 2 for $2.50.  The other tiny flocked bears are available seasonally at Walmart in large packages of 12 for under $2.00.

    Boy's Corner

Here, in the right corner of the shop, you see two twin boys playing on a rocking horse.  This horse is available in Walmart in 1999.  I spray painted it white.

The sled is a Christmas ornament, purchased at Target in 1997.  The skateboard is a keychain purchased at a party supply store in Atlanta.  The Radio Flyer Wagon behind the horse was purchased at Michael's craft store in 1998.

On the shelving in the corner, you'll find ships on the countertop.  These were purchased in Winter 1998 at the Dollar Tree store, four to a package.  The Tonka Trucks and Heavy Equipment Vehicles were purchased from Kaybee Toys in 1998.  They were packaged 3 to a set.

On the upper shelf, there are four Batman vehicles.  These were produced by Micro Machines and purchased at Kaybee Toys in 1998.

The lower shelf contains Hot Wheels boxes. I thought it looked like Hot Wheels car sets, but they are actually playing cards from Target, purchased in 1999 in the party good section, four boxes to the package.  Some of the cards are actually hanging up through the back of the store on a kite string to give the appearance of a racing car flag set.

Below the shelving unit, you'll see small army vehicles of several different types.

    Toy shop Main Section

And here it is again...another overview of the store.  I hope you enjoyed the tour of all the furnishings and accessories.  This was truly a joy to set up and brings me a sense of childlike wonder to view.
