The Toy Shop ![]() I have to say that the Atlanta miniatures show inspired me. I also recently saw a new playset with furnishings and accessories for a toy shop. I wanted to purchase it myself and thought in the meantime, I would create a toy shop from the accessories I had already. Little did I know that I had more than enough to fill the space and now there is no way to fit anything else in this shop or there'd be no room for people. So, here you have it. A toy shop. This scene was created in the bottom level of the townhouse I constructed in 1998.
This is the left side of the shop. You can see some familiar logos and designs on the walls and games that have held the test of time. This portion of the store was devoted to dollhouses, dolls, teddy bears and board games.
This is the right side of the shop and is devoted to cars, trucks, action figures and some sporting goods.
At the front counter, there's alot to choose from. The shelves are made from a wooden box that contained four miniature liquor bottles. The bottles were removed and a balsa wood shelf was glued in about 1/2 way up from the bottom of the box. I spray painted the shelving with a silver metallic paint. The countertops were spray painted with a faux granite spray. Again, there are games on the left set of shelves and cars and action figures on the right side.
From this image you can see the countertops. The back counter is actually a kitchen cabinet with four working drawers underneath and four cabinets below. My friends, Jane and Larry at Janlare@aol.com made this for me. You can see some of the store essentials on the back counter, such as packages ready to be shipped, a fax machine with working sound, a shopping bag, some dolls and figureines and teddy bears on display. The display cabinets on the left and right side of the back counter were actually the boxes that contained a tiny miniature from the Disney Store. I saved the boxes, spray painted them inside and out with silver paint and used them as display cabinets. One has a reproduction Mod Barbie doll case and the other has a miniature of the robot from Lost in Space.
In this shot you can see the games in the shop. The majority of them are keychains available from Basic Fun. Some of the games included are Trouble, Operation, Clue, Monopoly, Life, Twister and Oujia. I like the Life game on the top of the counter. The box is actually the keychain, but the gameboard is a Christmas ornament. A Santa figure was sitting on the board, but removed him and the gameboard and pieces were left in tact. This ornament was available in Christmas 1998 at Lowe's, Walgreen's and CVS Pharmacy. |
