This is the finished product. The flower shop won first prize in its category. I'll share more details. Ken is looking at little Tommy who has broken a potted plant in the foreground. I used real potting soil, which I sprinkled once I arrived in the competition room. Another shopper has caught site of the scene and is shrieking in horror! The blond shopkeeper on the left has just blown up a mylar balloon and is giving it to the brunette Kelly on the left. I cut a full size mylar balloon which had long since deflated and glued two circles together, inserting a cotton ball to keep the balloon inflated. I put the balloon on a piece of wire in which a Barbie was previously fastened to her box. These are good sturdy wires and are coated with plastic so it gave a more string like appearance. I took curling ribbon to secure the end of the balloon to the wire. More mylar balloon forms were glued to the walls. In order to get the appropriate size decorations on the balloons, I used small scrapbooking stickers. The walls themselves are the thinner type of foam core that you can purchase at your local craft store. I spray painted the walls with a fleckstone type of look. I added a curtain in the center, threaded on a short dowel rod to give the illusion of the back storage room. The curtain has a center opening to complete the illusion. Over the curtain, I hung a small shelf and added more potted plants, which are nearly out of view. You can see assorted straw hats were added to the wall on the left, while small picture frames and floral artwork adorned the right wall. A printed Mastercard/Visa/American Express/Discover Card sign is attached to the side cabinet on the right wall. The potting bench on the right has a piece of cork attached under the shelf to the counter. I added various colors of ribbon to a straw then secured it to the cork with a piece of string running threw the straw (dowel) rod. Pieces of green tissue paper complete the look of the area where cut flowers would be wrapped. Though it's not visible, the counter has a cut out area, in which I used fast food barbeque sauce containers (cleaned of course) and filled with potting soil and pebbles. Miniature coursages and butoneers were added to the center display case. These were constructed from polymer clay and baked for durability. I used earthquake putty to secure them in place. The brunette store clerk is handing Skipper a butoneer. The store staff aprons were simply constructed from polished cotton fabric and ribbon ties. They are wearing denim bottoms and white tops for continuity. (BACK to previous page) |
