Rooms & Scenes

Flower Shop

I entered the 2001 National Barbie Doll Convention Competition in the category 'Shopping for the Prom.' I constructed a flower shop, so as to give the impression that Skipper was shopping for her prom. This page of photos shows the creation of the scene.

I used a refrigerated case from the I Luv To Shop Grocery Store line.  I removed the doors and spray painted the interior and exterior of the case a metallic silver.  Then replaced the white doors.  I filled the case with painted terracotta pots.

The cash register counter was part of a Mattel bakery or bake shop set. I added some resin plaques of vegetables to the bottom front exterior. I spray painted the counter with the same metallic finish as the refrigerated case.  A miniature computer is now a cash register and a daytimer made with leather from an old purse makes a great desk accessory.

The flooring was simply created from four 12 inch squares of peel and stick laminate. I ultimately stuck them to a heavy piece of foam core board.

The potting bench was construced from very thin plywood and houses lots of great planting materials, including some from a Mattel accesory set.

The small rug on the left and the three tables which make the small shelving unit were purchased from a Mattel living room set found at Target several years ago.  I stacked the end tables on the coffee table to create the shelf look. I filled the shelves with terracotta pots, small artificial plants and other knick knacks

The secretary desk is a great display piece which I purchased from Big Lots. It houses a collection of miniature wood objects, small stuffed animals, and other knick knacks.

The finished project is on the NEXT page.
