Rooms & Scenes

Sarah & Crystal's Fashion Shop

Sarah & Crystal's Fashion Shop

My friend, Carol's twin girls - Sarah & Crystal, who are diorama artists in the making, decided to redecorate a few rooms one afternoon.  They transformed what was a bedroom scene and showcased a fashion shop.

There were two counters and settings created within one room so that Sarah and Crystal could each make a defined space their own.

On the right, a Teresa was redressed in a BMR outfit.  Her hair was redone into a chignon hairstyle.

The counters were found in a store playset from 1982.  I have been searching for this set for several years and found it at the National Convention in Pittsburgh in 1999.  The display cases are the best part!

The mannequin bust was also a part of the playset and she was accessorized with a pearl necklace from the Enchanted Evening repro and a vintage Fashion Queen wig.  The hat was also a part of the playset.

The plant was found at Joann Fabrics.  There are new styles to choose from in Holiday 1999, though this one is from several years ago.

The gift bag was purchased in a set of 12 from the Dollar Tree store.  They are usually sold two packages for $1.00, which is a great deal as you get 24 bags.  There are usually different patterns to choose from.

The decorated box inside can be found at most Ben Franklin stores during the holidays.  You can wrap your own gifts by using dominos or dice, but it can be time consuming and just as expensive in the long run.

I received the gloves on the counter in a swap on a miniatures email list.  The sunglasses were part of a BMR accessory set.  The rest of the set is in the case below.  It included: the spectator shoes and a cow patterned purse.

The theme for this shop was 'shopping during the holidays', so it was appropriate that significant others and small children accompanied the ladies shopping.  The guys were dressed in Fashion Avenue outfits.  The children were dressed in one half of Matching Fashion Avenue outfits.

The standing mirror in the background also accompanied the fashion shop playset.

I acquired two fashion mannequins at two National Conventions.  The one in this picture was red, but clear and dressed with a repro of the Red Flare vintage outfit.

The bags were made from patterns and directions available here.  Labels were cut from magazine ads, catalogs and the Sunday advertisements to give a more realistic look to them.

The boxes were purchased from various craft and discount stores.  I believe the different patterns of wrapping also add to the dimension of the scene.

The chairs were found at the Dollar Tree store in 1998.  They have a great wicker seat and wire frame.

The table was made by Hobbies & More, a custom miniatures and furniture shop.  You can visit their website HERE!

Various shoes from current shoe sets were placed on the table to give the appearance of the shoe department in stores you visit.  You'll usually see all color variations together in the same display space.  This was ideal for closed toe pumps.

The Fashion Doll holding the shoebox was created for me by my friend, Mickie.  She gave a creation like this to each person seated at our table at the National Convention in Pittsburgh in 1999.

The shoebox she is holding and the one on the chair were created for me by my friend, George.  he used mod colors to accent the 'Giorgio of Avondale' label.

Behind the doll you'll see a mannequin dressed in the repro of the vintage Wedding Day outfit.  Underneath is a black and white checked totebag.  I found this at Drug Emporium in Atlanta, Georgia.  These were intended to be keychain coin purses, but by removing the keyring, you've got a great set of luggage for your fashion doll.  Several styles were available in 1998.
